« If you haven’t looked recently, prices for many vintage Porsche 911s are now well out of the realm for mortal men to purchase. However, the growing values have their advantages because they mean that the 912 is being better accepted as a member of the Porsche family. In a new video, Petrolicious talks to one owner about his mildly modified example while the coupe zips through the backroads and city streets of France. »
« Following two massive changes to his life, Julien Borne bought a 1967 912 as a project to get back on the road. After hours of welding, wrenching and beating out panels by hand in his grandparents’ neglected country house, he crafted this gorgeous example. Check out the video to hear his story, as Petrolicious shows why the model’s stigma is wearing off. »
In 2012, Julien Borne’s father died suddenly. This event – in tandem with the birth of his daughter – caused Borne to pause and take stock of his own life and priorities, an episode of reflection that ultimately led him to a sad-looking 1967 Porsche 912 and a dilapidated house in the French countryside.
Borne had been racing in the French Supermoto series for years, so he was no stranger to risk but his decision to move into his grandparent’s long-vacant farmhouse in a village on the outskirts of Paris and devote himself to rebuilding classic Porsches nevertheless required a new level of gumption on his part.
« We recently discovered artist, designer, and vintage auto enthusiast Mr. Antoine Gaslais and his handcrafted silkscreens. Born in France in 1975, he moved to Paris to study art in Penninghen School, then Maryse Eloy School where he graduated with honors. Following his graduation, Antoine immediately joined a production company as an art director, working primarily in the medium of music publishing. In 2001, he joined and edited the designers collective 21X29,7 and developed it over seven years. In 2008, he left the group and began handcrafting silkscreens while remaining a freelance art director. Always fascinated by cars, but also aircraft and motorcycles, he works for the promotion and preservation of historic vehicles through his association with the 912Club. »

« The cult of the Porsche 912 is an understated, gentlemanly creed. It’s for sensible folk, the sort who understand the imperatives of efficiency without throwing the baby out with the bath water. »
« Thing is, these flat 4, Karmann built versions of the much pricier and fickle automotive totem are a truly accessible way in to classic car ownership. And if you scour the planet with a digital eye you can usually pick out a project get: like the ones owned by Gentleman car dealer Dodi over in Monterey. »
« Dodi has a particularly nice, particularly scarce 1966 version that all discerning 912 buffs should check out. And with the sort of fuel efficiency that engine produces, you could easily use one of these as your daily drive. »
« Found a nice piece of graphic here too, on Le Container – Looks like the912 club of France is having a little gathering this weekend. »
