PORSCHE 912 Coupé Red – 1966
La Porsche 912 est une Porsche 911/1, mais propulsée par un moteur 4 cylindres à plat de Porsche 356. Elle fut lancée comme entrée de gamme des 911 et produite de 1965 à 1969, puis à nouveau en 1976 avec le modèle 912E, une voiture vendue sur le marché Nord-américain uniquement. La 912 (1965-1969) reprend une version 90 ch du moteur de la 356 SC, et l’associe à la caisse et au châssis de la 911. En raison du coût de production trop élevé du moteur « Flat 4 » en aluminium, elle sera remplacée en 1970 par la 911 T au moteur « Flat 6 » en fonte, peu coûteux, de 110 ch. On peut distinguer 3 grandes familles de Porsche 912 : -les SWB (caisse a empattement court ou Short Wheel Base en anglais) produites jusqu’en 1968. -les LWB (Long Wheel Base) produites en 1969 -les 912E produites en 1976.
La 912 fut vendue a plus de 30 000 exemplaires. Une version découvrable dite Targa apparaît en 1967; une option très rare dite » soft window » faisait de la 912 Targa un véritable cabriolet

Car is in very good condition, it seems that it has spent all of it’s life in warm and dry climate (probably in California state). We bought it from North Carolina state, Mebane, US.
We checked all the body metal parts with coating thickness tester and could not reach number of 200 um. Only less. Looks like it is still original paint.
We do not know much about the car’s history, but we managed to find that in 2014.02.05 it was offered for sale in Chatsworh, California usingHemmings.com webpage.

Une red a vendre
Fantastic 1968 912, that has been in storage for 5 years in Arizona & with the same owner for the last 38 years! Among many of the factory options on this car are chrome wheels & headrests. Vin# 12800259, gearbox# 228418, all matching numbers apart from the gearbox which is an upgraded 5 speed unit! The original engine runs brilliantly & the car pulls like a train, the gearbox shifts well through all gears & has no issues. The car has been painted once in the past, the original colour was Burgundy Red / 6808. Bodily it is in superb original condition, all door & panel gaps are great. Original brightwork on the car has signs of age but still looks superb! We have fitted a pair of our KK exclusive 64-68 headlights in favour of the US spec lights, a lovely original orange bar hood crest we had in stock was fitted to replace the later one that came on the car. Inside the original interior is in good shape, the rubber over mats are superb & the original Puck style horn push has a great patina to it. The original chrome wheels have polished up very well & wear new Continental tyres. To summarize this is a brilliant survivor car with heaps of originality that is ready to get in & enjoy, it would also be a prime candiate for restoration in the future should you choose.
